Washington DC Post 2017 Scholarship Awards Dinner at the Army Navy Club

Please join us as the Washington DC Post presents our 2017 Scholarships to deserving students from regional universities and colleges. This year our special guest speaker will be Mr. Joseph Ruocco, AIA, Associate Director / Federal Projects for SOM. Joe Ruocco leads SOM’s Civic and Government Practice, with an expertise in delivering innovative design solutions for large scale, complex secure federal projects to such clients as USACE, DOS, GSA, FBI, and WHS, through fully integrated multi-disciplinary services. Fostering a collaborative environment, Joe brings together architects and engineers to realize projects that enjoy the critical acclaim of his clients and is delivered on time and under budget—often through the design-build delivery method. As an architect and project manager, Joe has traveled the world executing embassies in Burma, Togo, Ghana, Uganda, Russia, and Ivory Coast, and headquarters campuses in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, India and Mexico. His military portfolio includes the National Defense University, Washington Headquarters Services Campus Complex, and Fort Belvoir Master Plan.

SAME Professional Credentialing Achievement Awards Program (CAAP)

Through the Professional Credentialing Achievement Awards Program (CAAP), SAME will fund Young and NCO Members’ exam sitting or registration fees for credentials, certifications or licensures deemed to have intrinsic value to SAME’s mission and the architectural and engineering professions.

Your application will need to be signed by a Post President, Regional Vice President, or Member of the National Board of Direction. If you wish to obtain a signature from the Washington DC Post President please send Susan Merrigan (susan.merrigan@som.com) your completed application by October 2nd.
She will then review and sign for you to submit to the SAME National POC, Wendy Parker, by the October 7th due date.

The SAME DC Post is looking for volunteers to help with evening meal prep at DC Central Kitchen. After we give back to our community, we will gather for a networking happy hour at Kelly’s Irish Times.

George Mason University Imagine the Future Symposium 2017

The Imagine the Future Symposium 2017 aims to incubate innovation in conceiving the built environment of the future and pushing the frontiers of our infrastructure systems for an interconnected world. The symposium is a participatory event involving experts from diverse backgrounds. Through tracks involving visionary lectures, demonstrations, experiential activities and interactive dialogue, teams will come to consensus on multiple visions for the future of interconnected infrastructure. The outcome of the symposium will be a compendium of innovative visions, with the best to be rendered by an artist and documented for dissemination.

Leadership & Mentoring Program Graduation Dinner Dec 5th

Please join the SAME DC and NOVA Posts for our Leadership & Mentoring Program Graduation Dinner on December 5th at the Army Navy Club.  Our program participants include Young Members from Industry and the Government who have dedicated themselves over the past year to developing their leadership skills through the program’s monthly sessions with SAME Fellows and other senior mentors.  We invite all SAME members to join us in celebrating their accomplishments.

SAME Foundation Now Accepting Donations

Spring 2016 SAME established the Society of American Military Engineers Foundation ("Foundation") as a separate 501(c)3 tax exempt organization to provide a secure and beneficial repository for charitable and other bequeaths from members of the Society and the public at large. In addition, the Fund will separate the philanthropic objectives of the Society from the Society's day to day operations. The primary purpose of the Foundation is to continue to promote the strategic goals of the Society and to support the development and growth of members and future members. Therefore, spending will include but is not limited to the following:

  • Funding member professional development and career advancement programs, including negotiating certification discounts, and then funding the programs
  • Providing stipends to fund member travel to SAME events
  • Supporting SAME Engineering & Construction Camps
  • Promoting STEM-related initiatives
  • Providing scholarships to students who are pursuing degrees in STEM-related fields
